Herzog & de Meuron in Madrid

After a long break I want to share with you one more project of Herzog & de Meuron. I thinks it´s really worth seeing!!!!

CaixaForum Madrid is a post-modern art gallery in the centre of Madrid, Spain. It is sponsored by the Catalan bank la Caixa and located next to the Paseo del Prado at number 36, next to many great museums.

It was constructed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron from 2001 to 2007, which combined an old unused industrial building and hollowed it out at the base and inside and placed on top further floors which are encased with rusted steel.

The building looks like sustained in the air,  surrounded by little artificial water falls, really impressing.

Next to it is an art installation of green plants growing on the wall of the neighbouring house called “vertical garden”, project of Patrick Blanc.

All together, the building and the garden of the wall next to it make a great contrast.

CaixaForum has evolved into one of the most visited museums in Madrid.
